We Support our Troops!

The USS Cleveland was launched on May 7, 1966 and commissioned on April 21, 1967, at Norfolk, VA. Built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, West Bank, Pascagoula, Miss., the ship is 569 ft. in length, and carries a crew of 24 officers and 396 enlisted men. The USS Cleveland is the third ship in the Navy to bear the name of the city of Cleveland, Ohio.

The USS Cleveland is usually assigned as part of a Marine Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), dividing her time between operations in the Eastern Pacific and extended deployments to the Western Pacific.  Cleveland first saw action during the Tet Offensive in 1967.  Since then she has participated in numerous combat support operations, including the mine-clearing effort of Haiphong Harbor and Operation End Sweep, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  She has also played a key role in the seizure of the vessel Sea Chariot, the largest Maritime cocaine bust in history, and supported the clean up effort of the Exxon Valdez disaster in Prince William Sound.  She participated in anti-piracy operations off the coast of Africa and assisted in the recovery of Alaska Air Flight 261 off the coast of Los Angeles.

Now based in San Diego, California, the ship is set for deployment once again in March, 2011.  Cleveland Kids LLC is proud to make a donation of DONKEY™ games for the use of the men and women serving aboard this ship.
